Why This Superstar Takes an ‘Extreme’ Stance Against Her Kids Internet Access

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling’s kids won’t access the World Wide Web anytime soon.

“Putting my kid on the internet and being like, ‘Oh, search something,’ that to me is equivalent to telling her, ‘Oh, just go down the street in the middle of the night. You’ll be fine,’” said Mendes, who’s Mom to Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8. “I know that sounds extreme, but that’s what I feel.”

“I still have all this anxiety and I see myself passing it on to my children,” Mendes said. “Subconsciously I can’t imagine what they’re inheriting from me that I don’t want them to inherit from me.”

“When my kids ask me if they’re old enough to go on the internet, social media or anything requiring wifi,” the actress captioned a video of herself shaking her head and finger.

Mendes says she also tries not to talk about physical insecurities or aging around her kiddos, too.

“I’m not going to be able to control this narrative much longer,” she confessed. “They’re getting to that age.”

Mendes and Gosling make tremendous efforts to shield the daughters. They recently moved their girls out of L.A.

“For them, the most important job is their girls. Everything else comes second,” a source claimed to PEOPLE magazine in March. “And their girls are thriving. They left L.A. to live a bit further north, away from Hollywood. They didn’t want the girls to grow up around other celebrity kids.”

“They’re hands-on parents and don’t have any nannies,” a source told U.S. Weekly. “Being confined to their home with two small children is exhausting at times, especially without hired help.”

Mendes teaches her kids gratitude and employs their help with chores around the house.

While Gosling hasn’t stepped out of the spotlight, Mendes stopped acting when her eldest was born.

“I was never in love with acting. I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress. I had my moments when I worked with really great people,” she said, adding her best work has been with her husband. “He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before.”

“I don’t know,” she said about returning to acting. “If there’s interesting roles…”

“I kind of felt like I did it, you know?” she said, referencing her movie with Gosling, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES. “, ‘I just worked with Ryan Gosling. He’s like, the best. It was such a high [in] my career to work with him and what we created together, that I was like, ‘This is a good time to like SEINFELD it, and just walk out.’ So, who knows?”

Lately, Mendes’ focus has been on her new children’s book about how to conquer anxiety.

“It’s out!!!,” the actress recently shared on Instagram, “So cool to see my first children’s book at @barnesandnoble AND avail in both English Y ESPAÑOL!!”
