Sadie Robertson Huff Reminds Us Where True Beauty Comes From

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sadie Robertson Huff knows that true beauty has nothing to do with what you see in the mirror.

In a recent YouTube video, the DUCK DYNASTY star sat in front of the camera and removed her makeup as she shared some encouragement with her followers.

“So much of our world is so focused on what we look like and what we accomplish and the things that people perceive us,” Huff began. “You get to choose, you know, how you present yourself on social media. You get to get dressed in the day and show up how you want to and present yourself.”

She explained how at the end of each day, we are forced to face who we really are behind all the facades, and even though we may not want to see it, she reminded her viewers that each of us is created uniquely by God.

“All of us truly were knit together in our mother’s womb. We’re created by a God who is so intentional and made us original. That word original literally means ‘without copy.’ You’re not an imitation of someone else; you are made without copy. You’re wonderful, beautiful, unique. There’s no one else who looks like you, and that’s a good thing,” she continued.

Huff shared how much social media has impacted people’s perception of themselves: “Filters became a thing on Snapchat and Instagram. I read somewhere that plastic surgery went up by 55% for young people because people wanted to imitate the image that they saw the filter represent.”

Social media has been a growing problem for people, especially teens and children.

US Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, has said that he believes 13 is too young for children to join social media platforms.

“I, personally, based on the data I’ve seen, believe that 13 is too early, it’s a time where it’s really important for us to be thoughtful about what’s going into how they think about their own self-worth and their relationships and the skewed and often distorted environment of social media often does a disservice to many of those children,” Murthy said.

Huff continued, “I think we’d live a lot more free lives, I think we live with a lot more joy, I think we’d live with a lot more life if we would be willing enough to unfilter ourselves and, right where we’re at, decide that we’re enough because God said we are.”

Huff’s reminder is supported by God’s truth in Psalm 139: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well.”

She dove into this topic further in her new song “Mirror,” which released in August.

“I can’t believe it’s finally out,” Huff posted on Instagram. “This song has impacted me so much in the process of writing it and singing it… I pray it impacts you as well and gives you the words to speak over yourself.”
