Country Star Deana Carter: The World Needs God-Honoring Entertainment

While many current events may leave people discouraged, country star Deana Carter says that wholesome entertainment that emphasizes the importance of family, faith, and love is just what the doctor ordered.
“It just means a lot to have that wholesomeness, especially in our world today. No one’s at a loss for corruption… we can find it at every corner, every turn and at the flick of a button, at the swipe of a finger, you can find anything that you want that is probably not on the up and up,” Carter told Movieguide®. “So it’s really important to put [positive messages] into entertainment and music and society in general, just a foundation of goodness, faith, God, family, failures and successes—like surviving when you make mistakes is such an important lesson for all of us.”
Carter likes to include these values when she takes on acting roles.
Carter will reprise her role as Jolene in the third installment of the “A Very Country” series A VERY COUNTRY CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING.
As a singer/songwriter and mother, Carter identifies with her character and is grateful for a role that reflects her personal experiences.
“When I read the very first script for the very first A VERY COUNTRY CHRISTMAS, the first film, and it was, like, ‘wow, did they read my discography?” Carter laughed. “Do they know that I’ve been through this kind of stuff? It was just a perfect fit, to play [Jolene] because I really do have a lot of the same experiences that they’ve written out in the script.”
A VERY COUNTRY CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING also emphasizes the moral content that Carter believes is important to show the current generation.
“I’m a mom–my son is 16 now. I was a wild child in my college days and post college days and when I became a mom, it definitely changes everything when you realize your choices are going to affect someone else in a big way,” Carter recalled.
That’s why she chooses wholesome entertainment for her family.
“We need that put [God-honoring entertainment] in front of us all the time because God has so much grace if we just are willing to humble ourselves a little bit and say ‘I made a mistake, please forgive me and help me do better next time.'”
