Disney Announces Next Animated Movie Getting Live-Action Remake

A live-action version of TANGLED is officially in the works. 

Variety reported that Disney is “developing a reimagining of the 2010 animated movie, a musical take on the Brothers Grimm story about the magically long-haired princess Rapunzel.”

No casting announcements have been made, but Deadline revealed that THE GREATEST SHOWMAN director Michael Gracey has “entered negotiations to direct” the project. 

Jennnifer Kaytin Robinson, whose previous credits include THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER, DO REVENGE and the upcoming I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER reboot, wrote the latest draft of the script. 

TANGLED has previously been spun off into RAPUNZEL’S TANGLED ADVENTURE, an animated series that saw original cast members Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Several of Disney’s upcoming movies are live-action versions of beloved classics, like LILO & STITCH and SNOW WHITE. 

SNOW WHITE will hit theaters March 21 and is highly anticipated by fans of the classic cartoon. WEST SIDE STORY star Rachel Zegler and WONDER WOMAN’s Gal Gadot are set to star.
