Freedom Singers Bring AGT Host Terry Crews to Tears with Gospel Performance

A group of once homeless singers auditioned for AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, absolutely stunned the audience and left show host, Terry Crews, in tears.

They call themselves the “Freedom Singers” and although they are auditioning for AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, it’s about so much more than that for this group.

This group came from Skid Row which is known for its homeless population. In addition, the singers met through Los Angeles Community Action Network, an organization that advocates for homeless people.

One singer expressed her gratitude for the organization through her own personal story of homelessness.

“I’m so blessed that I found the Los Angeles Community Action Network because it gave me a voice and an opportunity to rebuild myself,” she stated.

Another group member talked about their purpose as a group; to not look the other way.

“We represent a lot of things,” she said. “Some people who were houseless, maybe came to transitional housing, some who have lost folks that are houseless. When we see someone on the street, we want to encourage you not to look the other way.”

Following the performance, the group received many affirmations, but one gentleman expressed that it was about much more than a performance.

“The unhoused is more than just an L.A. problem,” he stated. “It’s a national problem, maybe even a world problem, and you have given it a voice and you have given us a purpose and a message. This was more than just a song, more than an audition, it was needed, and thank you for informing, entertaining and blowing the roof off this place.”

Once the group received four yes’s, Terry Crews walked out from behind the stage and gave his thanks.

“I want to thank you so much for what you do for the community, for what you do for so many people,” Crews said. “I am completely touched right now, and I just thank you for being here. You’re my brothers and sisters. Never forget that.”
