Terrian Wants to ‘Lead [Listeners] to the Cross’ With Her Music

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian artist Terrian wants to “plant a seed” of faith in her listeners’ hearts.

“R&B comes from gospel music,” the singer said of her musical influences. “So in a way, I think it’s us trying our best to sanctify that sound a little bit more. And also recognizing that there are a lot of Christians who love those genres.”

Terrian continued, “We have church music, but we also need to be able to take up space as believers and artists in these other realms, so that Christians can have something else to listen to, but also, unbelievers can hear it as well and go, ‘Oh, I didn’t know Christians can write songs like this and that they’re doing that over there.’”

“I’m just praying that the Lord would plant a seed in their heart and use it to lead them to the cross,” she said. “I think it’s an outreach.”

Terrian released her debut album earlier this year, titled “Give It Time.”

“I’ve been living with open hands and trusting the Lord’s timing,” she said of the project. “That’s what this whole album is about: waiting. Waiting can be hard, especially when things aren’t going the way you thought they would. Waiting has been hard, but at the same time, it’s been eye-opening. I’m grateful for the time to figure out who I am as an artist.”

Trusting in God’s plan has paid off for Terrian — she has almost 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and her single “Big God” has racked up over 17 million listens.

“I’m just a girl from Memphis getting to do beautiful things for The Lord’s kingdom with some amazing people. Forever grateful,” Terrain wrote in an Instagram post.

Movieguide® previously reported on Give It Time:

Former TobyMac backup singer Terrian has just released her debut album, “Give It Time,” a process she says was a three-year journey.

“I’m relieved, I will say that!” she told The Christian Beat of the album’s release. “I looked back through photos and voice memos and realized, ‘Oh, my goodness, I’ve been working on this slowly for the past three years.’”

Terrian continued, “It’s just finally out and I’m so excited about it! It feels good.”

“Give It Time” features singles like “Big God,” “Honestly, We Just Need Jesus” and “Give It Time.”

Terrian also shared what she hopes listeners take away from the project.

“Everything that we’re doing is first and foremost rooted in Christ, and you know, it flows out of that relationship,” she said. “I just hope, in whatever way people need to grapple or grasp or wrestle with the Lord…I hope that they’re able to do that somehow through this music.”
