Lee Greenwood to Receive Charlie Daniels Patriot Award

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country music legend and “God Bless the U.S.A.” singer Lee Greenwood will be awarded at the 5th annual Charlie Daniels Patriot Awards Dinner on September 13.

The awards dinner supports The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project (TCDJHP), “a not-for-profit organization that assists other not-for-profits in securing funds to help causes that benefit veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The organization was co-founded in 2014 by the late country music legend Charlie Daniels.”

“This is a very special time of the year for The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project,” said TCDJHP co-founder David Corlew. “Itʼs a time to join our community as we recognize those who have gone above and beyond in supporting the return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of our returning veterans. It is an ongoing mission and we believe it to be an honor and obligation as Americans to help our vets.”

Greenwood meets the criteria set forth for award recipients—to continuously display support for the integration of veterans in their return to a normal life.

“The award honors a person, persons, or group that fulfills and exemplifies the efforts and dedication of TCDJHP’s purpose to continuously care, support and encourage the men, women, and families who have served our great nation,” a press release reads.

Actor Gary Sinise also met this criteria.

As previously reported by Movieguide®, TCDJHP gifted Sinise the Patriot Award in June. “’I am honored to receive this award from Charlie Daniels, in his name,” Sinise said… “To receive an award in his name is a blessing, a privilege, an honor. Why did I get so lucky?’”

Besides supporting TCDJHP’s work, Greenwood displays his compassion and appreciation for veterans in other areas, too. The singer partnered with Helping a Hero and Disabled American Veterans and initiated an “Adopt a Vet” campaign.

Movieguide® reported:

Nationally known for his song “God Bless the USA,” Lee Greenwood joined Fox News Digital to share his plan to launch a new initiative to help and honor veterans….

Part of the initiative is a movie called ALL-STAR SALUTE TO LEE GREENWOOD that will hit theaters on Sunday November 12…

Concerts 4 A Cause decided to team up with Greenwood “to allow the public to sponsor a veteran and the veteran’s guest or caregiver to enjoy the event,” Fox News reported.

Greenwood has a goal to send 50,000 veterans across the nation a ticket to watch the film for free.
