Kelsey Grammer says he enjoyed walking to work for his new movie, KAREN KINGSBURY’S THE CHRISTMAS RING.
Grammer plays antiques dealer, widower and father Howard Miller in the movie. His son, Ben, falls in love with a military widow who’s looking for her family’s lost ring.
“This guy’s got a quiet sense of faith, and he’s lost his wife several years back and he’s still kind of devoted to her, and I like that about him,” Grammer said of his character. “One of my favorite things in the movie is when I said quietly to a picture, ‘I miss you, babe.’ It’s sweet.”
Grammer is well acquainted with grief, as he lost his younger sister to homicide when he was 20.
“The first Christmas without your loved one, that’s a tough year,” he said. “It’s a tough, tough year, but then hopefully you get around to a sense of renewal.”

“You get to reacquaint yourself with the joy that you knew with that person, and that’s a very important thing. I think this film has that a little bit, so I was glad to do it,” he told PEOPLE.
His character started his antique business with his late wife.
“They had this dream of making that one big splash where they could finance a nice vacation for themselves, that kind of thing, and he thinks he’s found one, and it turns out he has to give up on it,” he said. “He does the right thing.”
He got to walk to set on some days, which made him pretty happy.
“I mean, I was staying right across from where they had the antiques store,” he described. “It was pretty great.”
When Grammer encounters new projects, he looks for something unique that he hasn’t explored before.
“I think, ‘Oh, I’ll try that,'” he said. “I mean, I’ve got one coming up where I’m going to be hunting down a mountain lion that’s killing people. It’s called CLAWS, like JAWS. I’ve never done that before, so it’s going to be fun.”
Jana Kramer also stars in THE CHRISTMAS RING.
She said, “Karen Kingsbury is an amazing author and the way that she was able to entwine faith into the story, too, I think it’s really beautiful. It tells that there’s love, hope and joy, especially at the greatest time of year.”
“It has everything you love about a Christmas movie but has a different depth,” Kramer explained in an another interview. “There’s the loss of my husband who was in the army, then there’s the faith aspect which I love. I speak about my faith a lot, but I haven’t done many faith films. And Karen intertwines faith in such a beautiful way.”
THE CHRISTMAS RING came out on Nov. 6 and is available in theaters.
