‘Let’s Stay Unified’: Christian Singer Shares Inspiring Message Before Election Day
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian singer Danny Gokey is reminding us to “stay unified” as we approach this election season.
“I got a song for this election season,” Gokey said in a recent Instagram post. “It’s not just for the left, it’s not just for the right. While they’re trying to divide us, let’s stay unified.”
His song “My America (I Still Believe)” plays in the background, and the video then shifts to a clip of him singing its chorus:
I still believe in us, Oh America
You’re still the land I love though a little bruised up
Stars and Stripes still cry Liberty
Over evil over tyranny
Blood poured out
For our freedom
Sacrificed it all for this nation
I still believe in us
My America
“Don’t let this election season divide us!” Gokey’s caption reads. “Share this song with someone you might not agree with, and let it be a reminder of all that we still have in common!”
“My America” was released last summer, as part of Gokey’s patriotic EP Brave. The project was meant to bridge the gap between political parties.
“I’ve been…saddened by the state where our country has gone – all the division, the divisiveness,” Gokey told Christian Headlines. “But number one, I believe that God had a purpose for our country. And to ignore that, I think is detrimental to our country. And so being a believer, I believe this: We have a dual citizenship. We’re citizens of heaven, which is our most important aspect of us. And then citizens — if you live in America — citizens of this great country.”
He continued, “We have to remind ourselves: We are who we are today because we decided to be that, and only we can change that. That’s a sobering thought…If we’re going to want to keep freedom, we have to go back to the foundations of where freedom started. And we have to go in and enforce those principles. Those principles will never be outdated, those principles will never go out of style…It’s founded in truth. And truth never bends. It always stays the same. It’s people who bend and change and become different. And so if you want to go back to freedom, you have to bend your belief system back to the truth.”
