Dude Dad’s Taylor Calmus and Wife Heidi ‘Pay It Forward’ After Son’s Time in NICU

After Taylor and Heidi Calmus’ fourth child, Kelso, stayed in NICU, the couple wanted to help other new parents in similar situations.

“Now baby Kelso is out and healthy … we decided to pay it forward by dropping off one of our Dude Dad Diaper Bags full of goodies for every family on the NICU floor as a gift and a little piece of hope that normalcy is coming,” Taylor said in an Instagram post.

Kelso spent eight days in NICU after he struggled to breathe. Movieguide®️ previously reported on the Calmus’ son’s difficult birth:

“This is not how you picture you first hour of your baby being born,” Heidi said.

The doctors decided to take the next step which would be to intubate Kelso. This immediately struck panic and worry into Taylor and Heidi.

However, Taylor sat next to Kelso, gave him a pacifier that was in Kelso’s basinet and Kelso “went to town on it,” Taylor stated.

The doctor’s then realized Kelso wasn’t struggling to breathe as much as they thought. Instead, they decided to keep Kelso on a less invasive machine, a CPAP.

As scary as the scenario was for the SUPER DAD star, he stated that they were fortunate in comparison to other parents that have had newborns in NICU. He added that he was thankful for the“great care” their son received.

“Those 8 days felt like a lifetime to us, but I am well aware that it is only a fraction of how long some families stay,” Taylor went onto say in his post.

This is not the only time the Dude Dad has helped other parents in need, as Movieguide®️ reported he visited the Respite Care facility that helps special needs children and their parents:

“Anyone who has a child with special needs knows it can be way more than a full time job and Respite Care is such a huge asset to these families,” Calmus continued.

Dude Dad also shared that he was able to meet some of the children who spend time at Respite Care.

“What a bunch of cheerful little people!” Calmus wrote. “Can’t help but smile in their presence.”
