Familiar Marvel Villain Will Return in Upcoming Vision Series

A familiar face is returning to the Marvel Universe — robot villain Ultron is set to appear in the upcoming untitled Vision series.
Marvel fans were first introduced to both Vision and Ultron in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Both characters are similar robots, but Ultron wanted to destroy humanity, while Vision chose to work with the Avengers and save the world from threats.
Ultron, played by James Spader, was “seemingly destroyed” at the end of AGE OF ULTRON, as the Hollywood Reporter wrote, adding that it is “unclear how he would return and what kind of relationship he would have with Vision.”
Vision, played by Paul Bettany, was last seen in WANDAVISION, where he was rebuilt and brought back to life through the power of Wanda Maximoff’s grief but without any of his memories.
The series — originally titled VISION QUEST, but now untitled — “is looking to start production in England in 2025,” and is “Marvel’s first new live-action show in nearly two years,” per Variety. Terry Matalas, who previously worked on STAR TREK: PICARD, will serve as showrunner.
The Vision series has been in development since 2022. At the time, Deadline reported, “the series would center on The Vision (Bettany) trying to regain his memory and humanity. While the focus is on Vision, we also heard there is a possibility for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to appear, which would make sense given how interconnected the two characters’ stories are in the MCU.”
The untitled Vision series isn’t the only WANDAVISION spin-off in the works. Movieguide® previously reported:
The upcoming Disney+ show AGATHA ALL ALONG will promote dangerous occult themes, including witchcraft.
The show spotlights Agatha Harkness, a witch who was introduced to viewers in WANDAVISION. Kathryn Hahn is set to reprise her role as Agatha, with Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, Joe Locke and Debra Jo Rupp rounding out the cast.
“In AGATHA ALL ALONG, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell,” the official synopsis of the show reads. “Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…”
In a teaser trailer, Agatha mentions losing her “power” after a battle with Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch.
“I miss the glory days,” she says. “She took every bit of power I had, and I can be that witch again.”
For 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (2015), James Spader was Joss Whedon's only choice to play Ultron because of his 'hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, while also being very human and humorous' pic.twitter.com/e5IJlllIVr
