‘Worlds Colliding’: Dallas Jenkins and Mel Gibson Meet Up

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins just shared a photo of his meeting with PASSION OF THE CHRIST director Mel Gibson.

“Worlds finally colliding…but in a good way,” Jenkins wrote on Instagram. “Had a chance to finally meet the other Jesus storyteller.”

Jenkins is currently hard at work on the fifth season of THE CHOSEN, which will cover Holy Week.

“The response to Season 4 has been overwhelming so far, which provides a nice lift for us as we head into filming,” Jenkins told Variety. “Of course, we’re about to try to portray the most famous week in the history of humans, so the euphoria from the previous season never lasts long. The entire Season 6 will cover one day, so covering one week in Season 5 feels luxurious.”

Gibson is also reportedly working on a new project focused on the life of Jesus. It’s rumored that the actor-director is preparing to make a sequel to PASSION OF THE CHRIST.

Screenwriter Randall Wallace, who previously worked on BRAVEHEART and WE WERE SOLDIERS with Gibson, revealed that they are discussing the upcoming movie.

“I ran into Mel just a couple of nights ago, we were talking about ‘when is this going to happen’ and I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag too early, but I think it’s coming very soon,” Wallace revealed

Movieguide® previously reported on PASSION’s sequel:

Over the past few years, it was reported that Mel Gibson was working on a sequel to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST along with Writer/Director Randall Wallace (WE WERE SOLDIERS SECRETARIAT, and HEAVEN IS FOR REAL). THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST grossed over $600 million worldwide. The new movie would be titled THE RESURRECTION, taking place in hell and covering what happened in the three-day period before Jesus rose from the dead. Gibson has stated that the movie is a massive undertaking and would take years to develop.

In a USA TODAY interview with Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in THE PASSION, says the sequel is taking shape. “There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience” Caviezel said, “it’s great. Stay tuned.”

While Caviezel isn’t spilling details as to the plans with the highly anticipated sequel from Mel Gibson, he did say, “the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”

Back in 2016, Gibson told USA TODAY that he is “trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.”
