LOST IN SPACE: Infestation finds the Robinsons and Dr. Smith (an imposter) struggling to free their trapped ship from the ice before their fuel runs out. Judy copes with PTSD from previously being trapped in the ice. Viewers also learn from flashbacks that Dr. Smith is really June Harris. June first stole her sister’s identity to board the mother spaceship, and then stole Dr. Smith’s identity to gain safety when the mother ship started exploding. She considers leaving the Robinsons trapped and saving herself, but ultimately decides to help everyone escape even though it puts her own life at risk.
“Infestation” highlights the communal and familial values of the Robinsons, especially as opposed to June who believes in self-preservation. However, even she learns something from the Robinsons. The characters and their relationships are developing very nicely, and this third episode shows the inner strength of many of the characters, especially Judy and John Robinson. There’s more violent content in this one, especially when June murders a man (via airlock), and when John, armed with a knife, fights with some killer eels. Still, the show remains appropriate for most viewers.
