Marvel actor Wyatt Russell explained how becoming a dad helped him connect with his parents, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, better.

“When you become a parent, you realize what your parents feel about you. And so, you realize that all they want you to be is happy. They want you to live a fulfilled life, and that’s all you care about for your kids. And so I’m imagining that’s all my parents care about,” Russell told PEOPLE.

Russell became a father in March of 2021 after his wife gave birth to their son Buddy Prine. In February 2024, they had another son, Boone Joseph.

“It’s incredible,” Russell told Entertainment Tonight about fatherhood shortly after the birth of his first son. “It’s everything you didn’t know it was going to be. I think everything you hope it’s gonna be is like a mish-mash in your mind before it really happens and then after it happens, whatever happened before is almost like [it never happened].”

“Biologically, I think it does something to your brain where you just erase half your life before you’ve lived there,” he continued. “And now it’s about [your kids] and your family and trying to balance everything and time and new, amazing problems, amazing issues to have. [It] can’t be better.”

Russell isn’t the first celebrity to have found his life changed after becoming a parent. Many stars leave the industry to raise their kids or simply to give them a better life outside of L.A. Superstars Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, for example, have previously shared the joy they have found from being parents.

“It’s like living in a Jim Carrey movie,” Bell previously told PEOPLE. “Yesterday, I had to say out loud, could you please stop using my toothbrush to wash your legs? I said that. I never though I would utter that sentence, but here we are.”

“When I have failures in life, I get to come home and still be a dad. You can feel it’s why you’re here…” Shepard added. “They’re creating novel ideas and thoughts. And so there’s two more interesting people in the house that are computing the world differently than us, and they can communicate it now.”

“Nothing compares to being a dad,” he continued. “It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.”

In a world where most people are self-focused, it is encouraging to see major celebrities discuss the joy of parenthood and how it shifts away from yourself and onto your children.
